Quad Bike Insurance

Unlike most vehicle or bike insurance, Quad Bike Insurance is slightly more specialist and not available from just any insurance broker.

Quad Bikes and ATVs are a completely different mode of transport – with a centre of balance which is different on every model. The reason for this is that ATV’s stand higher off the ground, whilst Quad Bikes generally sit lower down giving less opportunity of body roll whilst cornering.

ATV’s get used more for Agricultural reasons due to the actual size of the machine. There are many manufacturers who supply and install adaptations for ATV’s, like spreading systems, feeders for cattle and grass cutters for that extra big garden. Quad Bikes are probably more common on the field racing around, or more of late, being used as commuter vehicles for people who live in the raural areas.

When it comes to insurance, Quad Bike Insurance and ATV Insurance comes in many different shapes and packages, but be assured that they are not always cheap. Unline the car, van or truck – Quads and ATVs are easier to remove from site and push into a waiting trailer or into the back of a commercial vehicle.

So, here are our ‘Top Tips’ for buying Quad Bikes and ATV’s – also Quad Insurance and ATV Insurance.

• |1| – If you are considering buying a Quad Bike or ATV, be it for road or offroad, always make sure you have the machine insured to cover any eventuality. If your only riding on fields, you should still consider getting insurance, and you do not have to have it road registered to get an insurance policy.
• |2| – When looking at Quad Bikes and ATV’s, don’t get carried away with a “cheap” alternative if you have that little extra cash. Most imported chinese Quad Bikes and ATVs tend to break easily, making it ever difficult to obtain parts and accessories for some of the more obscure makes and models.
• |3| – Should you decide to buy a Quad Bike or ATV from an auction site or through an advertisement in a specialist Quad or ATV magazine, never trust what is being told in th elisting and view the machine yourself. Never forget that the Quad Bike and ATV are more commercially used, so it may have been ran into the ground yet look great for a photo.
• |4| – If you see a Quad Bike or ATV online or in a magazine and it looks too good to be true, it normally will be! There are thousands of Road Legal Quad Bikes and ATVs that are stolen and stripped to look like offroad machines. This is common practice amongst thieves, so please be aware.
• |5| – ALWAYS make sure that you have somewhere to store it before you buy it. And, if you haven’t got a lock up or garden shed, then build a cover for it in the back garden out of timber. This way, you can keep it from the elements, as well as the garden opportunist.
• |6| – When stored either at home or your work place, make sure you have an insurance recommended lock and chain, and not one from the market. If you can afford to get a ground anchor, then they are worthy of installation, if not on the ground, through the wall using R10 resin style bolts. These will not always hold to the bitter end, but it sure makes it more diifficult for the average theif.
• |7| – Alwats be 100% truthful with the Quad Bike Insurance company you decide to go with. Should you give a false declaration and you know about it, then not only will your insurance get suspended should you get found out – but it also goes on your record for every other insurer to see.
• |8| – Adaptations look great most of the time, but if you think that it is not standard and you are not happy with it, then you should get in touch with the local dealer and get some advice from them. Each model is different, and some things come standard feature, whilst much does not. If you do not declare adaptations, your insurance company can cancel your policy without giving you notice. If in doubt, call the insurance company.
